Summer Book Study: How to Fight Racism by Jemar Tisby

In conjunction with the ongoing work of the Cathedral’s Isaac Project, a summer book study over Zoom will delve into Jemar Tisby's How to Fight Racism, Courageous Christianity and the Journey toward Racial Justice. Tisby’s work is praised as “[m]ore than ‘how to’ instructions aimed at transforming society, this book is an invitation to a journey of love.” (Bill Pannell).

Our weekly discussions will be led by Rev. Rick Britton and Mary Beth Stamps.

Rev. Britton is a retired priest in the Diocese of Tennessee. For many years, he has served on the Beloved Community Commission and recently co-led the Commission’s anti-racism training for twenty parishioners at the Cathedral. Rick, active in his retirement, also serves on the Isaac Project committee.

Mary Beth Stamps is the current chair of the Isaac Project’s Phase 2. With her leadership over the last two years, the committee has actively engaged the congregation through historical articles, race-related book studies, Sunday school forums, and multiple discussions addressing our church’s role in systemic racism and steps toward racial justice and reconciliation. Mary Beth, a retired nurse, has been a member of the Cathedral since 2019.
